Sugar has been feeling bad for about a week. All the time that I have been away, Ted and my pig sitter have been struggling to get her to eat. I made an appointment with Dr. Armour, an exotic vet in Springfield. (JennG, Ted said she was great) Sugar has multiple tumors in her stomach. She also has fluid around the heart. The doctor said we could try to treat her but in her opinion, she wouldn't make it. All her organs are shutting down and she is suffering terribly. Ted called me from the vet and we decided that we loved Sugar too much to let her to continue to suffer. So, Dr Armour will help her cross the Bridge this afternoon. I knew she was sick before I left but she has seemed to be holding her own. I was so hopeful that I would get home in time to see her again. Sugar was such a wonder piggie. She loved her food and she is one of those rare piggies that loved being picked up and loved on. I will miss seeing her run to me when I walk in the room. Rest well, Sugar...Mommy loves you. I am so sorry to hear about Sugar. I am just reading this thread (have been consumed with my own problems with Guinea). I think the lock of hair and pawprint were such a lovely thing for your vet to do. I remember when I picked up my dog's ashes we were given his pawprint and burst into tears.
I'm hoping you are remembering all the happy times you had with Sugar and that those times will make you smile.

Well, we had her cremated so I will be getting a box as well. I am not sure what I will do with her ashes but i want to do something. I am sure when i go pick her up, I will start crying again.
It seems so odd in the big cage. I always do a head count and it is odd to see 6 instead of 7.
