I adopted Oreo at the same time as Gilligan and Skipper. There was no point in leaving him there all alone at the humane society during the pandemic, while he was under the threat of becoming a victim of the "free to a good home" curse. I love his markings. He's a sweet boy too, so there's a bonus. He is hard to catch and squirms when I hold him, but he's not shy. He greets me every time and he will show affection as long as all 4 feet are on something solid with no hands under him; if that makes sense.
He's a lone pig and will never share space with the others, but he isn't lonely. He likes to interact with them. He plays with Gilligan and Skipper through their cages all the time. He's not much of a squeaker, but he does wheak when Gilligan does. He's a pretty hearty eater too, so that's good. He was listed as being 3 years old and that's looks about right. Smart too. It didn't take long for him to figure out how to get what he wants by chewing on his cage wires. He's got a pretty good little motor in him. Not quite as hyper as Sammy, but close. He does the same nipping thing if I try to hold him for too long. I'm using the old treat therapy to get him to trust me.
It was still nice outside and there was plenty of green grass for him to graze on when I got him and he took to it pretty quickly under the supervision and training from Mr Bubbles. Did I mention that he's smart? He hardly knew what to do out there and wanted to hide. After his second time out there watching Mr Bubbles, he learned that there's nothing to be afraid of and he found out how tasty the green stuff really is. I can't wait until spring so I can get him back out there. He really likes that.
He's actually a low maintenance guy. Doesn't make a huge mess of his cage either. Most of the other guys, except for Mr Bubbles do their business all over the place. Oreo doesn't. He has one place where he pees and another where he poops. He's also a pretty hearty eater. The only thing he's doesn't eat is cucumber. Everything else is fair game.
