I had pigs on and off since I was 4 years old, that's 52 years ago. Since my health is not great, Binky will be my last pig, most likely. He lives alone, because of his many health issues, he gets attacked by others. So, him needing to be a loner pig was kind of a blessing, as we don't need to feel guilty now.
Part of his social problems are caused by him having mild epilepsy, called Petit Mal, which makes him stand still and stare, which seems to come across as aggressive. Also, as I have first hand experience with autism, if there ever is a pig who has it, it's Binky. He gets very agitated when his daily schedule is disrupted, he is set to having things done on time! He has a Dollie, and we pretend she's a real pig. That sorta worked. He treats her like a real one, lol. Most of the time, he snuggles up with her, but sometimes he has an arguement and throws her out of his hidey, hahahah!!!
I tried bonding him with females several times at the start, when they were still alive, but even my kindest ladies could only leave him be for 2 minutes tops before fighting. We gave up. Seems that the 4 caretakers before us tried to bond him often, most likely most of them to mate, as he's a stunning pig: white-beige-agouti brown almost perfectly marked. This resulted in many battles cars and PTSD. He was afraid of eating hay for over 2 years since he was here, and survived on green oats as fiber input.
He arrived gravely ill, we instantly noticed he had severe heart issues. We made a vet appointment and he went there right in time, as he had the start of a URI on top when we were able to go. So, he's om heart meds since.
He's the first pig I ever had in 52 years who managed to overcome his instinct in telling us that he has a problem, if it arrives, which is very impressive. About 1.5 year ago, when we were sitting next to him, as I do most of the day anyway, but tis time hub was present as well, he wheeked very loud to grab our attention. When we came to look, he trampled his legs up and down, to make sure that we noticed. As I suspected, he had severe arthritis. He's on glucosamine + collagen + curcumin since, as his heart is too bad to have other meds on top, but he's doing great on that cocktail.
He also lets us know when he has bloat. He also wheeked loud and flapped his ears a few times, and as you could have guessed: he had an ear infection each time. We finally got that under control. But him bypassing his instinct is incredible, it still amazes us.
He loves me and hub to bits. He's a smoocher and loves being kissed back. He smiles at us. He loves being handled and carried around the house too to look around. He loves our Sylvanian Families settings and watches it sometimes at night, as he can see them from his cage. His non verbal communication is superb, he's great at telling us exactly what he wants. Needless to say that we love him like a real child, and he's the center of our world!
